Albert J. Walker, Jr.

What organization do you work for and what is your position?

I currently work for the District of Columbia Office of Contracting and Procurement as a Contract Specialist.

How long have you worked in the procurement field? 

I have worked over 16 years in the procurement field in several related positions to include: Project/Program Manager, Contracting Officer, Technical Representative (COTR), and Contract Specialist.

What do you plan to bring to the Chapter?

If elected as Second Vice President:

  • I will bring my many years’ experience assisting organizations with membership growth and fundraising.
  • I will continue to bring the enthusiasm and creative ideas to the Chapter that I did as Member At Large
  • I will continue to my strong work ethic and commitment to work cooperatively with all chapter members.
  • I will continue to recruit new members to work on the chapter’s various initiatives such as the Reverse Trade Show.
  • I will continue to suggest and promote creative fundraising ideas such as a Spring Fling Social Happy Hour.
  • I will continue to promote our chapter as an ambassador.
  • I commit to attend every Executive Board meeting as I did during my term as Member At Large.
  • I will commit to ensuring that the chapter’s Second Annual Reverse Trade Show is even more successful in raising funds for the chapter.
  • I will continue to suggest creative solutions to add value to chapter membership and help members develop professionally.
  • I will continue to assist the chapter in identifying guest speakers.
  • I will assist with securing training to assist members striving to earn CPPB and CPPO certifications.
  • I will continue to perform such duties as are assigned by the President such as Chairing the Day of Event Reverse Trade Show Subcommittee and NIGP-UDC Partnership as did as Member At Large.
  • I will continue to work towards promoting chapter morale and esprit de corps.

What organization do you work for and what is your position? 

Office of Contracting and Procurement supporting the Health & Human Services Cluster as a Contract Specialist

How long have you worked in the procurement field? 

9 years

What do you plan to bring to the Chapter? 

  • I plan to bring innovative ideas to the Chapter
  • Support the organization in developing a larger membership body
  • Working closely with President, assisting and standing in the gap when the President and Vice President are unable to.
  • Bringing Procurement Profession to the forefront.
  • Continue to bring the supreme quality of leadership is unquestionable integrity.
  • Open lines of constant communication regarding goals, missions, and timelines.

Nicole Smith-McDermott

What organization do you work for and what is your position? 

Office of Contracting and Procurement (Contracting Officer)

How long have you worked in the procurement field? 

9 years

What do you plan to bring to the Chapter? 

Nicole has been a NIGP MWC member for over 8 years. If elected to serve, Nicole plans to contribute to the chapter by providing original and fresh ideas, while ensuring a high level of honesty and integrity. She also plans to increase the number of memberships within the MWC through inclusion initiatives with local procurement professionals. Nicole has been steadfast in ensuring triumph in all initiatives she has been involved with over the years and becoming part of the MWC Officers will allow her to continue that steadfast stride.

Tia M. Mercer

What organization do you work for and what is your position?

I am currently employed with the District of Columbia Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) serving the Department of Employment Services, the Workforce Investment Council and the Deputy Mayor of Greater Economic Opportunities. My position with OCP is a Supervisory Contract Specialist/Contracting Officer.  I have 10 years of experience in the procurement field. My experience started in 2008 working for the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization as a Contract Administrator (CA). I served in the CA position for less than a year before I was asked to become part of the contracting and procurement team. This allowed me the opportunity to grow and expand my knowledge.

What do you plan to bring to the Chapter?

I plan to bring my knowledge and passion for procurement to this Chapter. Being a person with determination, I plan on using this as tool for helping the Chapter continue to be successful and educating other procurement professional on the continued growth of Government purchasing.
